med109 is correct. CPR is indicated for asystole. In the hospital setting or if paramedics are present medications such as epinpehrine and atropine can be given in addition to CPR. Even if a cardiac rhythm returns the prognosis is often very poor due to anoxic brain injury and usually organ failure due to hypoxia.
