How Do The Side Effects Of Levaquin Last?

my 14 year old daughter with cystic fibrosis took levaquin for 15 days before we realized that her hand, wrist, and knee pain and swelling were from the levaquin. she stopped taking it 4 days ago and she still has bad pain, especially in the tendons behind her left knee. How long will this last and what can we do about it?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Dear Madam, Hi & Welcome.

Based on the history given, your daughter seems to have developed Levaquin (Levofloxacin) induced inflammation of the tendons.

Approximately 50 percent of such cases will recover within 30 days, with 25 percent of patients having symptoms persistent for longer than two months.

She may need bed rest, physiotherapy, weight bearing restriction of her left knee for which a cast may be applied for about 2 to 6 weeks.

Hope this answers your query.
