I was diagnosed as a diabetic last year, and for a few months, did very well with managing my diet. Then I went 'off the wagon for about 6 months, and I've been back to managing my diet. Problem is my blood sugar is thru the roof no matter what I eat or what I do (routinely over 200). Is this normal? How long should it take for me to get 'normal' readings. It's been a little over a week of following as close to a perfect diet as I can.

Infectious Diseases Specialist, Dr. Praveen G's Response
Hello, Welcome to HCM As per your history,as your blood sugar levels are constantly above 200,along with the diet you need to take oral antidiabetic drugs .They are also called oral hypoglycemic drugs.
Diet can only keep the the diabetic status under control upto a certain extent. After that you need to go for drugs to get it under control.So.i would advice you to take these drugs like glimiperide or metformin after consulting your treating physician for proper dosages.
Along with this, good exercise like brisk walk daily is needed.
Hope i have answered you query.
Thank you
