How Dangerous Is Eating Uncooked Instant Raw Rice?

My 13 year old daughter insists on eating uncooked instant white rice. I have looked on other sites regarding the dangers of doing this because I want to provide her with hard copy proof that she is endangering her health. She has always been very thin and she is a very pale skinned ginger haired child. She was born with a diaphragmatic hernia which was successfully surgically repaired and suffered one bowel obstruction of the small intestine when she was 6 months old and lost about 10 cm of small intestine in surgery. I am suspecting the eating of the raw rice is making her anemic. Can you explain to me what the risks are and the damage she could be causing, because I really would like her to stop. Thank you. General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
Eating raw rice grain is a symptom of iron deficiency anemia.Your question also strongly indicate that your daughter has iron deficiency. She needs to get good iron supplement. In any case if she can;t tolerate oral Iron due to her previous intestinal surgery, she may be given IM or IV Iron supplementation. I hope you understand that we have to treat her disease, her cause for eating Rice, not the symptom. It is better to consult a doctor nearby your vicinity. She may need to go number of tests, for Iron levels in blood, any absorption problems, etc.
Hope I have answered your question. You are welcome for any further query.
