How Can We Safeguard Ourselves From Tuberculosis Patient?

My father, who is aged 80, is diagnosed with tuberculosis 2 months back. It is understood that TB is a contagious disease? We are 4 members in our family? Should we take any precautionary measures to avoid us getting affected? Pradeep Kumar

yes,
its better u dont get in direct contact with him, i mean with his cough or sputum etc. TB spreads through droplet. so suggest him to cover his mouth while coughing n to dispose his sputum safely with out bringing it in contact with any one else. u all would have got exposed to TB already as it is highly prevalent in india. so its better to get all 4 of u tested for any positive status.

I hope your father is on treatment for tuberculosis. Since you have not not mentioned where he has TB i am assuming he has TB in the lungs and that his sputum was initially positive. In which case he should have started treatment 2 months ago and his sputum should be tested again(end of 2 months). In most cases, by this time these patients become non-infectious.
