Eighteen months ago because of the bulging veins tests were performed, stress, ultrasound, MRI. all positive. However my feet/ankles are swollen and the bleeding condition progresses, Good diet active lots of walking at work and home??? Thanks Capt. Curt

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello Captain.

Varicose veins is a distressing disorder for many of the professional involved in tiring labor involving long standing hours. Policemen, Teacher, Surgeons etc. It is due to, like you said bulging of veins in the lower limbs. Treatment aspect, drugs can only do little to alleviate the problem. The only solution is surgery where they remove the vein that has lost its function to hold the blood without bulging. It's a simple procedure and is approached in many ways. Radiofrequency ablation, Laser Therapy, Trendelenburg Operation. It is always better to get it operated before it leads to another deadly disorder called DVT, Deep Vein thrombosis.
