How Can Worsening Tinnitus And High Frequency Hearing Loss Be Treated?

60 years old and having an increase ringing (tinnitus) in my ears. Have had this condition since teen years most likely due to prolonged loud noise from motor sports, but have been able to ignore it until now. Just had an annual physical and everything was in normal range. I take verapamil for BP which is in check at 125/75 to 135/80 also a never smoked, minimal alcohol consumption and good diet. I ve visited a ear doctor in the past 5 years which reveled high frequency hearing lose as a contributor to the condition. In the last month the ringing has doubled in severity to the point of being bothersome. I now notice it the moment I wake in the morning. I have a quality white noise sound machine but offers little relief. My question is, are there any advancements in treatment or homeopathic remedies that may help. Thanks

Hi and welcome.
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

Tinnitusis common issue and most casuses are benign and temporary. However it this lasts for longer period then it should be evaluated.

Tinnitus can occur due to causes like chronic ear infection, perforated eardrum, Eustachian tube dysfunction, Meniere's disease, TMJ disorders, Acoustic Neuroma etc.

Tinnitus is not a disease in itself but it is a symptom that indicates that there is some underlying illness. I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like Audiometry, x Ray MRI can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly.
In case if ringing does not resolve then you can be advised medicines like Tricyclic Anti-depressant like Amitryptiline, anti anxiety medication like Alprazolam, as well as Multivitamin supplements can be advised..
Wish you good health. Regards
Hope this information helps.
