I am 6 weeks and 4 days pregnant according to my last LMP. Will an ultrasound this early help give me a conception date? My significant other is doubtful because he only believes I could have ovulated on day 14 only. We had sex on day 20 and 21 and my cycles have not run every 28 days for the last 3 months. Is it possible that I ovulated late?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, I understand your concern. The ovulation day is 14 days prior to the expected date of next menses. If you have tendency of irregular periods ( which is mostly due to hormonal disturbances) ovulation must have been 14 days prior to the date of period that particular month.
sonography in early weeks of pregnancy can detect exact fetal age & decide about date of conception comparitively more accurate. In later months of pregnancy it can states approximate gestational age of fetus with +/- 1 week margin. Thanks.
