How Can The X Ray Show Increased Pneumonia Even After Reduced Symptoms And Medications?

Pulmonary question: I had pneumonia starting with cough and fever two hours a day for three days on 01-04-2014. I have felt great now for six weeks; however, a little cough with sputum now and then. Chest x-rays continue to show pneumonia has increased in upper right lobe. How can this be? Have taken avelox twice, steroids and cipro for 10 days.

Hello
The treatment of pneumonia is usually for 14 days and the avelox , cipro, steroid are not sufficient to kill pathogens ( bacteria).
Usually pneumonia lesions resolves within 2-4 weeks .
In your query you mentioned that the size of lesion has increased , this is a cause of concern.
Still you are having cough and sputum, this is also cause of concern.
In my opinion get in blood for E S R and c b c .Once again get in X ray chest .
Consult pulmonologist and get his opinion.
May be due to tuberculosis , so keep this thing in mind.
Good luck.
