How Can Swelling In The Upper Lip Be Treated?

Good Morning DR. Yesterday I had a toothache, I went to my dentist office and had an x-ray done. They said my roots look great as well as my teeth and I had no signs of an abcess, they actually said it s just a sensitive tooth and my cause toothache. Anyway I say all of that to say this, when I got home I used oral gel to stop the pain but I believe I may have used toooooooo much. I woke up this morning no pain but my top lip is swollen I have an ice pack will the swelling go away or should I go to the hospital?

Thanks for the query..

Well if the teeth and roots are all fine and there are no signs of infection then it can probably be sensitivity that commonly people elicit as pain..

But in case if there is a pinpoint localised pain in tooth and there is no decay ruled out then there can be a possibility of fracture or crack in tooth..

In case if you can localise the tooth that is causing pain then x rays should be taken from different angulations to rule out fractures..

As far as swollen lip is concerned it does not look like due to tooth pain but can be due to allergic reaction..

Take benadryl and continue to ice it..
If still it does not improve consult an Emergency room and get evaluated..
