How Can Sleep Apnea Be Treated?

Hello, I had a quick question.. I was diagnosed with sleep apnea approximately 2-1/2 months ago and started using a CPAP. I have trouble keeping it on all night because I wake up with increased pressure that either overwhelms or scares me. Recently, I have been experiencing vision issues.. I wear glasses, but lately my left eye mostly has been fading in and out, getting dark and cloudy, seeing more floaters that are brightly lit up, light sensitivity, etc.. I went to the eye doc and they said my optic nerve is inflamed on both eyes, worse on the left side. I have read about CPAP vs BIPAP and wondering if the CPAP would potentially be causing an increased intracranial pressure that can be leading to the optic nerve inflammation? Is this even possible?

Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic. . I understand your concerns and I will try to help you as much as I can.
Well, first some tests should be done to see what type of sleep apnea is present. The ost commonly used is a sleep study, which may require an overnight stay at a sleep center. The sleep study monitors a variety of functions during sleep including sleep state, eye movement, muscle activity, heart rate, respiratory effort, airflow, and blood oxygen levels. This test is used both to diagnose sleep apnea and to determine its severity. Sometimes, treatment can be started during the first night in the sleep center.
The treatment of choice for obstructive sleep apnea is continuous positive airway pressure device (CPAP). CPAP is a mask that fits over the nose and/or mouth, and gently blows air into the airway to help keep it open during sleep. This method of treatment is highly effective. Using the CPAP as recommended by your doctor is very important.
