How Can Severe Muscle Pain In The Arms Be Treated?

I recently starting painting a condo I just moved into. After the first night of painting the cathedral ceilings, I was in pain ... I thought I had just used muscles that I normally didn't use so I continued with my work. After a few weeks of painting 3 nights a week, I had to finally stop, the pain was too much. Now it hurts badly when I move my arm certain ways, my sleep is interrupted from sharp pain, and most times I can feel pain into my forearm. The pain is in the front of my forearm, my shoulder and radiates from time to time ... I also experiance a tearing sound when I move it. I have a very high tolerance for pain but I bartend for a living and this is really affecting my work. I did break my clavicle bone, same side, 9 years ago. Could this be arthritis ... I am going to turn 62 in a few weeks, but I am very active and my work is very physically challenging. I feel like I get my exercise daily from work and walking.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,my name is dr.Dorina Gurabardhi.I understand your concern.
Some advices that I can give to you are:
-Rest. Stop, change, or take a break from any activity that may be causing your pain or soreness.
-Apply ice or cold packs immediately to prevent or minimize swelling
-Do not smoke or use other tobacco products. Smoking slows healing because it decreases blood supply
-Make sure you are getting enough minerals such as calcium and magnesium.
-Try a nonprescription medicine to help treat your fever or pain such as acetaminophen
Hope my answer was helpful. If you have any other question Ill be glad to help.
Regards,
dr.Dorina Gurabardhi
