How Can Sciatica Be Treated?

Hello. I believe that I have a sciatic nerve issue. All the classic symptoms exist. Up to now, all I have used is Ibuprophen but this is a temporary fix and only masks the pain. Sitting, especially in a car is excruciating and
pillows and support cushions are totally ineffective. I saw a doctor sometime back who pretty much said it was Sciatica. I received an injection in my lower back/hip area but it had zero impact. This was a a Kaiser facility. My current doctor sent me to me a Physical Therapist but it barely helped. Are there real options to surgery I can explore?

Thanks for contacting HCM with your health concern

1. You should get an opinion of the orthopedic surgeon who will carefully examine you for:
. S.L.R. [straight leg raising] test
. any Neurological deficiency in legs [weakness of dorsiflexion of great toe] and will ask for investigations like;
- Hb%,
- X-ray LS Spine- AP & Lateral, MRI spine [for osteoarthritis, disc prolapse, TB spine, osteoporosis]

PS. You may consult a Rheumatologist for further work up till then:

i. take brown rice, wheat, black gram, horse gram, garlic, brinjal, mango, pomegranate, lemon, black grapes, milk, coconut water, tamarind, meat soup, ghee, oil.
ii. Avoid: chickpeas, peas, split red gram, bitter gourd, Jamun, beans, honey, excess night waking, fasting, physical exertion, excessive walking.
iii. massage with olive oil
iv. fry brinjal in castor oil and eat.
