How Can Restless Leg Syndrome Be Treated?

Hi I had restless leg syndrome for years. Miserable. I heard of putting a bar of soap under my sheet near my feet . It helps. I also have neuropathy with burning feet, cold feet, lightning stings in my feet and legs, vibration buzzing in my feet, sometimes in my arms or even in my body. Was horrible. I tried tying a couple of bars of soap in a long thin sock and made an anklet of the soap and the sock to keep the soap close to where my pains and irritation are located. It truly helps. WHY????

Hi
Thanks for posting on HCM
Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is a disorder of the nervous system that causes an urge to move the legs. Because it usually interferes with sleep, it also is considered a sleep disorder. The cause of RLS is unknown, however, genes play a role.Symptoms may be worsened by chronic illnesses, some medications and pregnancy.
Treatment for RLS is targeted at easing symptoms.
-In mild to moderate RLS, lifestyle changes, such as beginning a regular exercise program, establishing regular sleep patterns, and eliminating or decreasing the use of caffeine, alcohol, and tobacco, may be helpful.
-Other non-drug RLS treatments may include:Leg massages, Hot baths or heating pads or ice packs applied to the legs, Good sleep habits, a vibrating pad called Relaxis.
I will suggest you see a Neurologist for evaluation and drugs if need be.Drugs that may be used for this condition may include:
*Dopaminergic drugs like Mirapex, Neupro, and Requip
*Benzodiazepines
*Narcotic pain relievers may be used for severe pain
*Anticonvulsants, or antiseizure drugs, such as Tegretol, Lyrica, Neurontin, and Horizant.Your Doctor may help with this.
Hope this will help
Best regards
