General & Family Physician 's  Response
Abscess in gluteal fold is due to repeated infection. There are a number of factors which jeopardize your immune system resulting in increased susceptibility to infection. Those factors include nutritional deficiency, diabetes, HIV infection, compromised skin integrity such as after surgery or trauma, excessive sweating, compromised blood circulation, congenital immunoglobulin deficiency and chronic diseases etc. Inter-gluteal fold is a neglected area of the body with regard to cleanliness.
Advice
1.     Amoxicillin 500 mg thrice daily per oral for 10 days
2.     Ibuprofen 600 mg per oral with meal if pain occurs
3.     Apply Mupirocin ointment (T – Bact ointment) thrice daily
4.     Investigation – blood sugar (fasting & postprandial)
5.     Wear loose cotton undergarment and clothes. Sweating predisposes infection. You can use dusting powder to keep your buttock dry.
6.     Take high protein diet such as eggs, meat, cheese, vegetable and fruits
7.     Consult a surgeon as abscess might have to drain if it is large
Thanks
