Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband just started getting signs of shingles about four or five days ago (believe the trigger was a traumatic event). Of course the bumps are spreading and the pain is worsening. Everything I read says get to the doctor quickly. Our appointment is Tuesday. Do you feel this is soon enough, or should I think about taking him to the emergency room? the pain is becoming quite a problem. If we can wait, is there an over the counter medicine that will give some realize until Tuesday? Sorry I didn t realize that I would have to pay for your help. I appreciate your looking over our problem but I am getting the money together for Tuesday and the meds that will be required. The traumatic event that I spoke of earlier was a fall my husband (70 yrs old) had taken about a month ago and suffered a broken neck, clavicle and ribs. We are awaiting all the bills for that and so I am trying to be frugal. Thank you for your time but I will continue researching on line and hope that waiting until Tuesday will be safe. Thank you again.
I had gone through your question I can understand your concern.
Because the said condition is a viral infection and need some a symptomatic treatment for pain and dehydration. You can give him paracetamol tablet for pain relief and also give him plenty of fluids. You can also apply any antiviral cream on rashes too.
Because the medication of herpes zoster is not available over the counter. You may need to visit a doctor. There is also nothing to worry because this condition is self healing and limit of its own with time.
Hope my answer will be helpful to you. You can visit us back anytime you need any further assistance.
Regards Dr Muzaffer Hussain Parray.
