Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am trying to find out if Prolia is a suitable drug treatment for me. I was diagnosed with osteoporosis 10 years ago (at age 53). My doctor found that I have hypocalcemia, put me on calcium supplements (calcium citrate) and Fosomax. I took fosomax successfully for 6 years with improved dexa bone mass (after 2 years) followed by diminished (2 years later) followed by slightly improved (another 2 years later). Following a 3 year drug holiday , my bone density was slightly diminished. For a year I have held off on Prolia for 3 reasons: I have read that hypocalcemia is a counterindicator, I take Omeprezone for acid reflux, and the possible side effects sound awful. The treatment is expensive but my doctor has now had me approved through my insurance provider and scheduled me for the first shop on Monday. I walk/exercise alot and have broken only one bone in my life - a chip fracture in my ankle caused by my rolling my foot off a curb. Should I get this shot? Are there alternatives that will help my bones? Thanks! Carol
“As” per your clinical history is concerned please check your current bone density before taking any medications and if risk is not high then you can focus on lifestyle modification only instead of medication.
You can do like this-:
1)Do take oral calcium regularly and take calcium rich foods and ask your nutritional expert to make a chat for it. 2)Do take vitamin D regularly 3)Make a plan for exercise and do it regularly which strengthen your muscles. 4)Try to avoid alcohol and tobacco 5)Try to avoid sedentary lifestyles 6)Do check your TSH every three months
Hope that helps and it will help low risk group only
