Usually a trained eye can diagnose most lesions clinically, but in some cases, a biopsy may be necessary to rule out other conditions with a similar appearance. It could be anything from a simple hair follicle infection, sebaceous cyst, skin reaction to minor trauma or a STI like herpes. So treatment will depend on the diagnosis. It is important not to touch or try to remove the substance inside these cysts to prevent further pain, swelling, and infection.
