How Can Myopia, Nystagmus And Being Squint Be Dealt With?

Doctor, I am a student of 21-years old from India suffering from congenital high myopia, squint and nystagmus. In India, I used to consult an ophthalmologist about twice a year and thus am wearing a correction for my high myopia as per his diagnosis. The scanned latest copy of his spectacle prescription has also been attached for you to please go through it. After searching a lot, I got in touch with a squint surgeon in Mumbai, Dr. Mihir Kothari (Jyotirmay Eye Hospital, Mumbai, India). After having a thorough comprehensive vision examination and a good conversation with him, some of my doubts got cleared. A scanned copy of the comprehensive vision examination performed by Dr. Mihir Kothari is also attached so that my case becomes much more clear to you. According to him the reason why distant objects are not yet visible to me is due to the Amblyopia I am suffering from. Also, the three dimensional vision that I am deferred to is due to the un-attended squint. When I asked if the surgery would help me he replied that there is a very little chance of improvement now and the surgery can be done for just cosmetic purpose. When I went on the Internet to get more details about amblyopia, I found that there are many types of them existing. Its getting a bit tough for me to understand which is the one I am suffering from. None of my eyes are lazy. Both of them function properly but still it is only one eye that I use involuntarily making the other (left eye) squint. Voluntarily, I have been trying the accommodative mechanism of fusion to look with both my eyes but due to nystagmus or I don’t know why, it gets back to the squinting position with in a couple of seconds. Doctor, I would like you to please guide me through this. My queries are: - Which type of an Amblyopia am I suffering from? - Which one of my problem is the primary one leading to others? - Will a squint surgery followed by Lasik or vice-versa help me in any way? - What kind of a neuro therapy should I go for? Also, I would like to update you on my case with one more thing apart from the others mentioned above. Last week, I had been to another ophthalmologist in India, just to get an another opinion on my case. As per him, the primary cause in my case is nystagmus. When I asked him as to why am I not able to see distant objects clearly, his answer was that it was not due to amblyopia but it was due to my retina being unhealthy and underdeveloped . As per him, even if I get a LASIK done on my eye, the vision would be just the same as I am having right now with spectacles i.e. LASIK may only help me to get rid off my spectacles and not improve my vision. Also, he discouraged me from doing a squint surgery as my squint may be restored after some time due to nystagmus. As per you, what is the best that could be done in my case? Is there anything that could help me improve my vision? Please revert me with answers in the best possible way or guide me to a doctor of your trust whom you would advice me to mail to/get in touch with. Thanking you. Arun Haridas

Ophthalmologist 's  Response
with high myopia at early age ,what you are doing is the only solution. other procedure will not help. continue check up one in six month by ophthalmologist. since you have a ptesalated fundus , chance of retinal detachment is more. so get indirect ophthalmoscopy and keep watch for detach ment.
