How Can Myopia Be Treated?

We went to see a eye specialist for my 9 month old daughter and she said that she has some degree of near sightedness. Dr said that she does not need any glasses right now but she would like to follow up with her.
I am concerned that my little girl has to wear glasses in case her problem grows. here some questions i have
1) is this common problem
2) is there anything that we can do that help my daughter eye sight.

Hello,

Myopia is a very common eye problem and you need not worry in this regard. There is nothing much you can do to prevent it or improve the eyesight naturally. However the vision can be improved with use of glasses or contact lenses ( once she is older) and depending on the amount of myopia and few other eye factors, she can even undergo laser treatment ( after 18 years of age). Please follow up with your eye doctor every year to check with change in her refraction and whether to start with spectacles. Not giving spectacle correction at the correct time can lead to permanent reduction in vision called as amblyopia. This can easily be avoided by giving correction at the right age ( before 8-10 years of age).

Regards
