How Can Lump On Ovary Be Treated?

my daughter age 23 has a lump on her ovary she has been in a lot of pain and had a ultra sound done dr told her it was a lump and it needed to be removed was just wondering what it coul be and if would be a sameday sergerywould she need to stay over night
