How Can Jaundice Be Treated?

Hi. My mother is in India. She is suffering from jaundice since past 1 month and it is at level 22 now. She is admitted to hospital and it has been diagnosed that there have been fluids in her liver and there is some layer in the liver resulting in the ineffectiveness of medicines taken. Please suggest.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I am sorry for the jaundice problems your mother is having there in India.

The fluids in her liver is inflammation (hepatitis or cirrhosis). If you have any lab reports of her, please send to me for further evaluation.

Now, I believe they have carried out blood tests (for hepatitis) to determine the origin of inflammation (you say it's from medicines she has been taken; can you please give the full names of those medicines?).

I hope she is not dealing with cirrhosis. If hepatitis is caused by medications, once these are stopped, everything will get back to normal although time is required.

Once again, a full analysis of her lab reports is needed before telling the final words.

All the best and God bless!
