How Can I Stop Taking Medication?

hi, i have been taking 30mg co codamol tablets for about 5 years now. as i have scoliosis. but over the years i have come to realise i am now dependent on them. i really want to stop taking them but psychologically and ppysically feel like i cant. i feel to embarresed to tell my doctor and feel i may get told off. im a 31 yr old male
