i take .100 syntriod bcuz my thyriod sucks, i know that people with over active thyriods lose massive ammounts of weight in just a few months. i want to know if i take a double dosage of my syntriod for just 2 months to give myself a over active thyriod will it help me lose weight faster to become healthy faster. i know this is unhealthy so i dont want the stadard dr answer, but im 436 lbs thats also unhealthy so the faster i lose weight the better.
No. Doubling your Synthroid is not the answer to your weight problem nor will it cause you to lose weight faster, at least not without risking side-effects.
Furthermore, it can be dangerous.
I understand your concern at your weight level. If you were my patient, I would discuss surgical intervention with you if you want faster weight loss and it is appropriate at 436 pounds regardless of your height.
To summarize, please do not experiment with self-medication and seek a more reasonable solution and consultation with both a physician and a qualified Dietitian. Kind Regards, Kathryn Shattler, MS,RDN
Hello While just two months of double the Synthroid dosage probably won't put you at risk for a heart attack or a stroke, I really wouldn't expect it to allow you to lose more than about 10 to 15 pounds unless you couple it with a diet that limits your daily calorie intake to around 1200
