How Can Hypertension Along With Chest Pain And Dizziness Be Treated?

My blood pressure was 168/101 in the emergency room and they released me with bronchitis and a side note of elevated blood pressure, should I be concerned or can it wait for a doctors appointment in a week or 2?? I also had chest pain, headache, dizziness, shortness of breath, but he said those are symptoms of bronchitis too and left the blood pressure alone. I am freaking out please help

Hi,

BP 168/101 mm Hg is definitely high. But if it is just a single reading in the emergency room, then it can not be diagnosed as hypertension. BP needs to be checked on at least another two occasions on different days, and still remains high, then it has to be treated with specific anti-hypertensive drugs. Since there is no mention about the age, height, weight so difficult to give any opinion. For bronchitis heavy smoking is usually one of the main reasons. So my suggestion is to stop smoking (if you are indulging in), get BP checked, also get a ECG done. Because shortness of breath, dizziness and chest pain should not be ignored.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
