My husband had emergency surgery on his right foot (mainly big toe) after cutting it with a skill saw, The surgery was to determine the damage to ligaments and tendons, etc. After the surgery, his numbers dropped so low and his pain increased so great that it became seriously critical to get his b/p heart rate, etc., back to normal. It was determined that he is narcotic sensitive and didn t need as much meds as he was given. Last night after the surgery he began to hiccup and he cannot stop. The hospital just says it s a side effect of surgery. However, at this point it is very irritating and even somewhat uncomfortable since it goes on for hours without stopping and is not allowing him to rest for proper recovery. What can be done? Also, he has had a terrible challenge with constipation since all of the medications before and during the surgery which was just yesterday (even to the point of vomiting bile (sp?)........He was still released today without any remedies that have worked for these 2 major challenges that have both become painful......What can be done?
