How Can Headache And Strep Throat Infection Be Treated?

Had aches, chills, headache, sore throat, white spots on throat, pus pocket on tonsil, enlarged tonsil. Recently received amoxicillin for positive strep throat (went to a walk in clinic, not my reg Dr, needed to be seen fast). I took med exactly how she prescribed and for entire 10 days. I still had white spots on throat, pus pocket on tonsil, aches, and headache 1-2 days after I finished med, 12 days after initial Visit. Nurse practitioner then prescribed Bactrim DS for 10 more days. Ive been on that for 2 days with no relief. Im so achey/malaise also migraine and white spots have not moved. I read online Bactrim does nothing for strep virus. What should my next step be?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

Thanks for your query . There are two most common reasons for recurring headache and strep throat infection which are due to infection in throat leading to Strep throat that can be bacterial or viral . Need not to worry. Avoid hot, sharp , spicy food substances , do warm saline rinses and carbonated beverages. I would suggest you to start with warm saline gargles and betadine gargles 3-4 times a day. For pain and swelling you should take ibuprofen or acetaminophen. Consult ENT specialist for proper diagnosis and rule out condition like strep throat and viral infection . Doctor may order throat swab test , viral culture test or diagnosis with laryngoscope . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics along with decongestants and anti inflammatory . For now do betadine gargles 2-3 times a day .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
