How Can Hallucinations Caused Due To Haloperidol Withdrawal Be Treated?

My doctor is taking me off halperidol and want me to take 4mg of risperdone instead of 2mg. I did as the doctor recommended and started seeing snowmen and drones all around my house. It gets worse everyday. More snowmen and a lot more drones flying around my house. What should I do.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Risperidone is a new generation drug that is very effective in treating negative symptoms of schizophrenia, but not as good as haloperidol for the treatment of hallucinations.
I recommend you to first talk to your doctor if you haven't yet. If he says to keep taking Risperidone, do so for the next couple of days because the effect of he new dose (4mg) will take some time to kick in. If you still don't feel better after 3-4 days of taking Risperidone 4mg, you ask your doctor to change your drugs. Suicidal thoughts are an emergency. Never take them lightly!
I hope I have helped you.
Wish you good health!
