How Can Frequent Urination Be Treated?

I have been taking Red Yeast Rice Extract for about a year. Trouble sleeping is not new to me, but it seems to be getting worse. Also, I have had for about a month, the constant feeling of the need to urinate. (I do drink a fair amount of water). This is especially a problem when I go to bed and the urgency which causes me to get up several times a night interferes with sleep as well. I have had two urinalysis s in the last month to check for kidney infection. Both test showed no bacteria but with a trace of blood. One doctor told me it was slight and not enough to warrant antibiotics. After approximately two weeks, I had a 2nd urinalysis as a precaution. I took a prescription of Bactrium (not sure how to spell that). That did not help alleviate the discomfort. I read online the side effects of Red Yeast Rice Extract. I am wondering if I should discontinue taking that. I am 79 years of age

Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic. Thank you for your query. I am Dr. Rommstein, I understand your concerns and I will try to help you as much as I can
A urinary tract infection is a common cause of frequent urination and this is the first thing to think of. An overactive bladder is another common cause but usually seen on elderly, although it may be seen in youngs as well.
Overactive bladder is usually a collection of symptoms that can lead to frequent urination. These include: urinary urgency, or the sudden urge to urinate, caused by muscle contraction, urge incontinence, or loss of bladder control. Excessive caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol may also irritate the bladder walls and can worsen frequent urination symptoms. Treatment for frequent urination depends on the cause. Your doctor will first treat the primary disease responsible for frequent urination, such as diabetes. If an infection is at fault, your doctor will prescribe antibiotics for getting rid of the infection.
Medications that control the muscle spasms in the bladder can help reduce urinary incontinence, or loss of bladder control. Your doctor also may suggest doing pelvic exercises, such as Kegels or bladder retraining exercises, to help delay urination.
I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us in every time.
Kindly regards. Wish you a good health.
