Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my friend has an infection that has caused her a lot of coughing. she is being treated. The problem is her two grandsons are getting fevers and cold-symptoms that last a day or three, disappear, and recurs. This has been going on over 3 weeks. Her doctor wants her to ride out the infection -sans antibiotics. The children are taking Tamiflu when needed. How to break the cycle? (All I could tell her was to continually disinfect/clean common areas -hoping that was helpful.)
Hello, my name is Dr.Dorina Gurabardhi. I understand your concern. Some advices that I can give to you are : -Children must get rest. Rest helps the body focus its energy on getting well, so keep kids home from school to keep them warm, and well-rested. -Give to children lots of fluids. Replenish liquids lost from fever, vomiting and diarrhea. Fluids also help loosen mucus. -Use a humidifier. A humidifier in child's room can keep the air moist and break up nasal and chest congestion. -Gargle with salt water. Add 1 teaspoon of salt to 8 ounces of water. -Use pain relievers like acetaminophen or ibuprofen. Never give aspirin to children. -Dress your child lightly to avoid overheating Hope my answer was helpful, if you have any other questions I'll be glad to help, thanks!
