How Can Fecal Impaction Be Treated?

I recently had a bowel impaction with I decided would either require a trip to the emergency room or I would need to handle it myself...which I did. I found that the feces had packed to the point of being about 5-6 inches just inside me. Now am having a problem with my bowel movements being very large which required a tremendous amount of pushing to get that first plug out. This also is causing bleeding with the passing of that plug. Will my insides gradually shrink to accommodate that usual size of a normal movement or will I suffer with this that rest of my life?
