How Can Eye Irritation Be Treated?

My grandson went swimming in a pool today, and the chlorine has irritated his eyes. It has been several hours since he got home. We have flushed his eyes with plain water many times. Is there anything else we can do at home? I have Refresh tears brand eye drops. He is 9 years old. Is it safe to use them?
