Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I got bit by a dog six days ago. The spot where his teeth punctured the skin (approximately 1/4-1/2 centimeter) is already scabbing over and is healing quite nicely. However, the surrounding skin is extremely bruised and the bruising within a centimeter radius around both punctures is hard; almost firm. It's the only spot that hurts extremely bad when touched. Should I be worried?
Dog bites can sometimes get infected so it would be best to see your doctor for an assessment.
The pain is a natural response to the bite but severe pain can sometime indicate that an infection is present. If the dog has not been vaccinated against rabies, then this should also be considered as well.
Another consideration is your tetanus status, if you had a vaccine within the last 5 years, this would not be necessary.
I hope this helps
