Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my husband was D/X with diverticulitis (Mild) he has had no flare ups for approx. 6 mo. I noted that Clindamycin oral can have a S/E of diverticulitis should I contact the doctor as do not think I told about this at the time of our visit(today). He has not taken any at this time. MD ofc closed. so I am turning to you should I hold off until I talk with him????
Hi, I had gone through your question and understand your concerns. I dont think that you are right since Clyndamicin should not lead to diverticulitis and this is not true. It may cause pseudomembraneous colitiis due to clostridium infection but diverticulitis is something else. So if you ask me, you can proceed with clindamicin intake. It is more important to have high fibre diet and take enough fluids to prevent diverticulitis attack. Later in life if this will recur, surgical resection may be reasonable option as a treatment method. Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.
Wishing you good health.
