How Can Depression, Loneliness With Alcohol Dependence Be Treated?

I am considering taking antabuse. I drink wine only at night to deal with my lonliness. I have suffered from depression for 20 years, as a result I have literally dropped out of my social environment. While I have 3 wonderful children and grandchildren they are very busy to bother. I have stopped and started so many times and the guilt overwhelms me!!! I am a Christian and love my Lord. I am so envious of others that don t even drink alcohol. I wish I had NEVER seen it. I need some kind of detailed list of things that I need to avoid while on this medicine. Thanks for any input!

Hello thanks for asking from HCM

You are taking alcohol since many years. You had depression for 20 years and now due to alcohol you have guilt feelings and no none bother about you. You want to quit alcohol. Antabuse is disulfiram and this drug results in severe reaction with alcohol resulting in development of repulsion to alcohol. But the drug can cause severe reaction with alcohol and can prove fatal so there days the use of this drug is not advised. To quit alcohol you have to consult a psychiatrist. In alcohol de-addiction for first 5 days to prevent acute withdrawal drugs like Chlordiazepoxide or Lorazepam is used. The dose of this drug is then gradually reduced over 5 days. Then in maintenance treatment anti-craving drugs like Acamprosate, Baclofen etc are used. Visit a psychiatrist for prescription and keep your motivation alive.

Thanks, hope this helps.
