How Can Constipation In A Toddler Be Treated?

Hi
my daughter is 2 yrs and 4 months. She is suffering from constipation for more than a year. We saw her several renowned doctors. All of them prescribed 'Avolac' syrup but unfortunately it is recurring frequently and wounds her anal. She takes now normal food like us, little cow milk , twice breast feeding.
Is NIDO good for her ?

Thanks for contacting HCM with your health concern and since you have taken opinion and examination of doctors thus following is my approach:

1. Low fibre and high protein diet.
2. Regular walking and abdominal muscle exercise.
3. More roughage in diet ( green vegetables, fruits, raw bananas)
4. Drink more water and use a laxative if and when required.
5. First preference should be for Isabgol preparations. (Trifla/Kayam churan are very useful)
6. Purgation with olive oil is good and without side effects.
7. Avoid newly harvested rice, black gram, peas, potato, spicy food, fast food, and lack of physical exercise.
8. Take old brown rice, green gram, pigeon pea, papaya, carrot, radish, cucumber, bottle gourd, mango.

PS. Nido [powdered milk] causes bloating in some babies therefore consult a Pediatrician before opting for any alternatives
