Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My brother in law has congestive heart failure has had 4 minor heart attacks and had one 4 days ago his heart is only functioning at 30% he alo has diabetes and his kidneys are now not functioning properly hospital sent him home saying cant do anything else. How long does he have roughly left?
hi sir/madam,first thing i would like to tell you is that i have seen patients surviving with heart functioning less than 25%.most important thing is how properly the medication is given and how promptly you follow cardiologist advice.at our hospital,we would prescribe such patients, anti hypertensives especially ACE inhibitors, ionotropes like digoxin, diuretics like torsemide with spironolactone.so,what i mean to say is,with good treatment, not only prolonging the life span but the cardiac function can be improved a bit.regarding kidneys, disease can be assessed only with the knowledge of serum creatinine, blood urea nitrogen, level of proteinuria.so kindly furnish those details.a competent cardiologist consultation would certainly help him.hope i have clarified.any other issues, please dont hesitate to ask.take care.bye.
