How Can An Ear Injury Be Treated?

Im on vacation at the beach and was in the ocean with a float riding waves. I took my glasses off and had them in my hand when a wave knocked me off my float. the arm of my glasses went into my ear. there was some bleeding , but has slowed down. there is some pain, but not intense. My hearing feels like when you get water in your ear. It feels like it is swelled or something in my ear. M y question is would it be ok to wait until I get back home tomorrow and go to an ENT back home? And would it be OK to get some ear flush and flush my ear out?

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

It looks like due to hitting of the ear with hard wave as well as the arm of the glasses hitting inside the ear canal there is definitely injury inside the ear but along with it there is also a possibility that there is injury to the eardrum..

Injury to eardrum can cause eardrum perforation and it can lead to decreased hearing, bleeding and pain..

So my suggestion is to consult an Emergency room and get evaluated so that an ear examination can be done to rule out the exact severity of injury..

If there is only injury to ear canal then it will gradually heal and you can just put antibiotic and analgesic ear drops..

If there is eardrum perforation then small perforation heals gradually with antibiotic and painkillers just to avoid infection however larger perforations needs surgical repair..

Hope this helps..

Regards.
