How Can A Spider Bite Be Treated?

I believe that I was bitten by a spider on Monday evening. It has been itching and now has head. There is swelling and redness radiating out from where the bite is. I know that we have black widows around the outside of our house. I m concerned that it is getting worse and trying to determine how serious this may be.

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

It looks like there is infection at the site of spider bite that is causing head formation.

Itching, swelling and redness is due to reaction of the body to the toxin that is left under the skin during the sting..

So my suggestion is to consult an Emergency room and get evaluated..

You can be advised a course of antibiotics to be taken orally along with anti inflammatory painkiller like Advil or Aleve.
Clean the area with Povidone Iodine and apply antiseptic ointment over it..
You can also apply a mild steroid ointment in combination with antiseptic ointment to reduce swelling and itchIng faster..
If itching is too much then anti histamines like benadryl can be taken..

Hope this helps..

Regards.
