How Can A Painful, Hot Redness At Bruise Site Be Treated?

I bruised my shin 3 weeks ago and a huge hard lump formed. The original bruise, lump and pain have gone but I now have a very painful, hot redness emanating from the bruise site. It is painful even without touching. It is about 2" long and 1" wide. Should I be concerned? How can I treat it?

Hi,
After reading your history I can make out that you are suffering from bruise of the area along with secondary infection.

Pain after a period of 2 weeks in a bruise is quite unusual. It is basically possible only when there is secondary infection.
Take a course of antibiotics such as ciprofloxacin or cefadroxyl 500 mg twice daily for secondary infection.
Do not pinch, pop or squeeze the area. Give proper rest to the affected leg and keep it raised. For pain part you can take tablet paracetamol or diclofenac two times. If at all the pain is no reducing in 48 hours then show it to a doctor.

Take care.
