How Can A Forehead Patch With Ridging Be Treated?

Hi Doctor. For the past 10 years I have had a pale white patch running from the bottom of my forehead to my hairline. About 2cm thick. Sometimes it is barely visible which makes me wonder if it is lack of blood flow in that area. It gets worse when I am hot or very cold. I do have a pronounced ridge in that area which makes me think that it is caused by either the skin being thicker or thinner in a certain area. It seems to show up more nowadays. I'm not sure if its because my blood pressure is high but I do feel pressure in my face quite often. Cosmetically it really bothers me and I would like to know what the cause is and what I can do about it please as I don't want to look like a badger and unfortunately I am slightly receding with short hair?

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hello. Thank you for writing to us

I suggest a possibility of fronto-parietal morphea/ Linear scleroderma.
This condition presents with a ivory colored vertical band of hard bound, atrophic/ sclerotic skin, usually on one side of the forehead and may extend up to Or even beyond the anterior hair line.
It is a chronic condition and may gradually extend. It is a self limiting condition i.e the process ultimately stops after a time, however, it may be disfiguring.
The atrophy may extend to deeper levels to involve subcutaneous tissue as well as bone. Deeper involvement to the level of bone, is usually felt as a dent/ ridge.
Since you also notice a ridge in that area, probably the process has extended to underlying to bone as well.
Treatment is with topical potent steroids and oral steroids if the disease is still active and progressing.
I suggest that you visit a dermatologist for a confirmatory diagnosis as well as appropriate prescription.

Regards
