How Can IBS And GERD Be Treated?

Hi, I am a 57 yr. Old, overweight female. I have had IBS and gerd for years. I also have a hiatal hernia and Barrett esophagus. For about the last year and a half I get really bad stomach and intestine pain while I am eating. Not after, while I am eating. This doesn t happen all the time but quite often and can last from 30 minutes to several hours. I had a ultrasound done on my gallbladder and they didn t see any stones. I had a colonoscopy done about 2 yrs ago and it was fine. I had an endoscopy done the same time and because of the Barretts, will repeat every 2 yrs. I don t know what is causing all this pain but it can be severe. Not all the time though but is concerning. I take 2, 20 mg. Prilosec each day. Any ideas?

Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) and GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease) needs lifestyle modifications along with drugs for better symptomatic relief.
So follow these steps.
1. Avoid stress and tension, be relax and calm. Take sound sleep of 6-8 hours.
2. Avoid hot and spicy food. Avoid junk food. Avoid large meals, instead take frequent small.
3. Take combination of pantoprazole and levosulperide twice daily on empty stomach.
4. Go for walking after meals. Do regular aerobic exercise like running, cycling for weight reduction.
5. Quit smoking and alcohol if you have these habits.
6. Keep 2-3 pillows under head in bed.
Don't worry, you will be alright with all these.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
