How Long to Sustain Target Heart Rate When Exercising ?

When I exercidse 30 minutes on the treadmill, am I supposed to get to my target heart rate right away and keep it there the whole 30 minutes, OR am I supposed to work up to it for 10 minutes, sustain it for 10 minutes, and then cool it back down for 10 minutes? (In other words, how long do I sustain the target heart rate?)

You should warm up to your target heart rate and start counting from there.

You should sustain it AT LEAST 20 minutes -- that's the minimum recommended for health and weight loss. You can go up 45 to 60 depending on your requirements and condition. Personally I try to sustain mine for 30-45 minutes.

no it may not sustain, it should keep changing from time to time, it is good to sustain but it is not necessary to keep it.
