HELLO,
these are the problems related to complications in the healing of extraction wounds.
this is known as
alveolar osteitis or dry socket.
in this, blood clot has disintegrated or been lost, with the production of a foul odour and
severe pain of throbbing type.but no pus discharge.
usually occurs in females,3-4 days after tooth extraction.anaerobic organisms play a significant role.
it is extremely painful condition with
low-grade fever and ipsilateral
lymphadenopathy.exposed bone is necrotic and sequestration of fragments is common.
healing of such infectd wound is extrmely slow.obtundant dressing of socket using iodoform gauze and
zinc oxide eugenol must be done to keep the socket clean and protect the exposed bone.
the socket is irrigated with mild warm antiseptic and the dressing is changed everyday.
if you have severe pain in temporomandibular joint, chek for tenderness/clicking/popping noise.
avoid opening mouth too widely.
take care
