Hello there....When tooth has a cavity and is quite deep enough it usually results in a cystic lesion.....we dont call it a tumor....tumor is something that occurs because of excessive proliferation of any tissue....which part of the oral cavity does he have the swelling?if it is a swelling arising from the decayed tooth it could either be sort of infection or an enlarged radicular cyst...if it is not associated with the carious tooth it could be other tumors as well....tumors can be benign or malignant...a tissue needs to be taken from the site (biopsy) to confirm the kind of lesion... Dont worry its curable....he requires radiographs as well...Consult a Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon for further clinical evaluation and management.
Hello
Welcome to HCM
I would like to ask you whether he has some pus drainage also from same tooth?
It can be an abscess also but to rule out clinical examination is required. If that's abscess then it requires root canal treatment & if its tumor, even then you don't worry.
To rule out get biopsy done & then consult your dentist about its treatment because benign tumors are not incurable but in case of malignancy its good to get it detected & treated as early as possible.
Take Care
