History Of Lung Cancer. Have Hypersensitivity To Synthetic Odors. Hypersensitivity Pneumotosis?

I worked in the Optical Field (High End Glasses) for 12 years. During that time I developed Hypersensitivity to Synthetic odors. I looked that up and found Hypersensitivity Pneumotsis. I was exposed to highly respirable dust coming off of the machine that cut the polycarbonate and thiourethane lenses for glasses every day. Low exposure however the particulates come in at 2-5 on the 0=10 scale. I also was exposed to decomposition materials fumes gases and isocyanate or thioisocyanate was one of many. I accidentally discovered that I had Lung cancer and had surgery in 2010. the cancer was found at the base of the right lung. I had been a smoker but not for 26 years. I am thinking I may have been underdiagnosed. I am thinking that I may well have Hypersensitivity Pneumotosis. I know it is generally affiliated with organic dusts. What about the conditions I am describing here? The industry is not overseen here (although in the countries where the lenses are manufactured extraction ventilation is called for. Thank you, Nancy (Ps I do have scarring on the lungs and mild emphesema. (sp) I also used to have huge amounts of mucus coming up at night while I was trying to sleep and dry cough . I also have eczema a side effect listed on the MSDS sheets for dust reactions.

Hello dear,

The symptoms as mentioned in your post suggest that you might be having Hypersensitivity pneumonitis.
It can be further confirmed by certain investigations like complete blood count with absolute eosinophil count, High Resolution CT of chest as well as skin tests for determination of the causative allergen.

Management includes:
1. Antihistamine preparations like Allegra for symptomatic relief.
2. Montelukast, which is used as a maintenance therapy.
3. Maintain adequate hydration & take a healthy balance diet.
4. Also make sure that you are well protected from cold, dust & other allergens.
So, kindly visit a Pulmonologist for further management.
Wishing you a good health.
Thanks & take care.
