History Of Hysterectomy. Taking Estradiol, Unable To Lose Weight. Stop Hormone Therapy?

Hi,
I had a full hysterectomy 6 years ago and have gained 60 lbs. I started out with the patch for two years and then stopped all together. I had to get back on hormones because I had severe joint pain. I have been on estradiol for the past 2 years but have not been able to drop any of the weight. Should I stop hormone therapy completely? What are my chances of cancer with or without hormone therapy?

Thanks

Hi,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic,
You had Hysterectomy 6 years back I presume your Ovaries were removed, that is why hormone replacement was given. It is surgical Menopause you have not mentioned your age.

You are overweight >60 you certainly need to lose weight depending on your height, you should understand you should take low calories and low carbohydrate and low fat diet and enough protein diet. On the other side you need to increase exercise to burn calories and build muscle in body.

If you continue to take estrogen there is small but definite risk for breast cancer for which you need to discuss with treating doctor.

Hormone therapy can be stopped and calcium and vitamin D3 can be continued. There are other drugs to take care of osteoporosis.
To lose weight there are hardly any drug but currently Orlistat is available for helping some weight loss.

Hope this helps.
Take care.
Good Luck.

hi,
you can stop the hormone therapy now, provided you don't have withdrawal symptoms. this definitely helps you to reduce weight. chances of cancer without hormone will decrease.

wish you good health
