High Sugar, Losing Weight. Taking Medication. Should I Increase Dosage Or Start Insulin?

Hello, My name is Raghavendrachar, I am 51 yrs. I have been under sever stress for the last 6 months. I have been taking Tripride 2mg for last 3 years. Initially, sugar levels were high and after takng Tripride 2mg at different dosage as suggested by a Diabitologist, it came down then 1/2 tab per day in the night was prescribed. My Sugar levels used to be under control. Recently when i was loosing weight and became lean without any excercises, I got Sugar and other tests done. Result is Fasting blood 221, urine ++ (0.50%), Post Lunch Blood sugar 267 HBA1c 12.5, HDL 40, LDL 76, VLDL 34 Trig (TGL) 168, Liver Function test is OK. Should I increase the dosage to 1 tablet a day ofr go for some tests and start Insuline. Today random sug is 295.

Hi Raghavendrachar,
Welcome to HCM,
You are having uncontrolled Diabetes Type II,may be precipitated by stress in part.
You was prescribed triple drug that is Metformin, Glimepiride and Pioglitazone.
You need to check your blood sugar in between as you was losing weight due to hyperglycemia( High Blood sugar ).
If you are in stress it increases anti insulin hormones like adrenaline and Glucocorticosteroids which make diabetes worse.
Please do not treat yourself it is dangerous.
You should consult Diabetologist/Endocrinologist and start treatment along with diabetic diet and regular physical exercise.
Initially it is preferable to start the therapy with short acting insulin. with combination of oral drugs.
Your HbA1c is 12.5% which tells us your blood sugar is chronically uncontrolled..
You can check fasting, pre lunch and pre dinner Random blood sugar and adjustment of dose of insulin.
Your diet you should do a carbohydrate count. and take at least 3 to 4 small meals.
Please take care
Good Luck.
