High fasting, post meal glucose, taken Gluconorm PG-1. Can I continue?

Dr. My fastig Glucose is 120 mg/d. My Post Meal Glucose is 130 mg/d. This condition is after taking Gluconorm PG-1 for 15 days. I would like to know whether I need to continue to take the tablet and then how long. Is there any side effects If I take the tablet in half instead of full table. Regards Achenkunju K

Hi Achenkunju,
thank you for choosing HCM,
After effective blood sugar control you should have fasting of 70-110mg/dl, postprandial below 140.
This shows that your sugar level is normal after medication and its adequate for you.You need to continue the same dose and get regular blood sugar work up done and change dose accordingly.Diabetes is controllable disease but not curable. You need to take medication indefinitely. If you stop or decrease the dose your sugar wont be under control which may lead to many complications involving eye, kidney and nerves.By regular medication and effective control of blood glucose you can lead a healthy life.
Get Glucose tolerance test and glycated hemoglobin for further review.
Thank you

Pediatrician Dr. Rajiv K Khandelwal's  Response
Hi,

Thanks for your query. Anti-diabetic medicine has to be taken regularly and not for 15 days. We would like to know the blood glucose status before you started the medicine as also the glycosylated haemoglobin (Hb1C) level. Glycosylated haemoglobind tells us about the glucose status for the past nearly 3 months.

Do take your medicine regularly and be in touch with your doctor for a regular check-up.

With best wishes,
