High BP. Advised Amlodac AT. Healthy Lifestyle. Can Reduce Medication By Exercise, Good Food Habits?

Hi

I am 32 years old, recently during Medical for job change, the doc. noticed high BP of 150/90 and suggested full Cardiac Eval
1) ECG - Normal
2) 2-D ECHO - Normal (LVEF 60%)
3) Lipid - S chole - 212, Trigly - 140, S Hdl - 50, Ratio - 3.85
3) TMT - Negative for Ischemia and Good Tolerance levels
4) Thyroid Test - Negative
5) 24 Hr. Urine - Negative
Dr. advised me AMLODAC AT which i am having, at Home when i check my BP(Ambulary method) it is usually 117/75 or so. When i visit doc it ranges between 150/90 or so.

I had one question, can i reduce/eliminate my medication with exercises / jogging / cardio. I want to increase my activities to cure this problem. Many people have told me that once BP medication starts, its lifelong and cant be stopped / reduced ever.

My other habits are
Weight - 69 Kgs.
Height - 5.7 inches
Smoking - No
Drinking - 2-3 times in a year, mostly Beer
Family History - Father - No Heart Disease and no HTN
Mother - No Heart Disease and mild HTN
Lifestyle - Stressful Job and Long working hrs.

My questions are
1) Can i reduce my medication?
2) Can i lead a normal healthy life?
3) Can i exercises starting with mild ones due to my higgh BP?
4) will Yoga really help?
5) Can good Sleeping habits 10 to 6 will help me in lowering bp?
6) i have already reduced oily, salty food to improve my LIPID, will this also help? should i eliminate oil from my diet altogether?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear,

1. Dosage of medication can be reduced after consultation with your treating Physician, if your blood pressure levels are in control with exercise & dietary modifications only.
2. You can lead a normal healthy life, but you need to take certain precautions regarding your diet & lifestyle habits so that your BP & lipid profile remains in normal limits.
3. Mild exercise can be started with adequate relaxation & stretching in between.
4. Yoga helps in relaxation of mind, avoids stress & has beneficial role in reducing BP.
5. Good sleep of 8 hrs also has a beneficial effect.
6. It is appreciable that you have reduced oily, salty food to improve your lipid profile. It will have additional effect in reducing your BP. There is no need to eliminate oil altogether from diet. Make sure you avoid saturated fats like ghee, butter, etc. & use unsaturated fats like sunflower oil.

Wishing you a good health.
Take care.
